Low Back Pain

Herniated Disk

When a "slipped" or "ruptured" disk in the lower back or neck occurs, it is called a herniated disk.  Herniated disk are one of the most common reasons for neck, arm, lower back and leg pain. A disk herniates or ruptures when part of the center of the disk pushes through the outer layer of the disk and causes pressure on the spinal canal. This may cause pressure on the nerves. Any light pressure on the nerve may cause weakness of the arm/leg muscle, pain and/or numbness. Herniated disk specialists.

Herniated disk symptoms usually occur on one side of the body:

  • Herniated disc in the lower back may cause back pain, hip/ thigh/ leg/ foot pain, numbness, muscle weakness
  • Herniated disc in the neck area may cause neck pain, shoulder /arm/ forearm/ hand pain, numbness, muscle weakness
  • Pain at night
  • Pain with bending, twisting, sitting, standing or walking
  • Pain with sneezing, laughing or coughing

These are some of the risk factors for herniated disk:

  • Smoking
  • Excessive body weight
  • Poor body mechanics when lifting
  • Repetitive strenuous motion such as: lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or twisting


Sciatica is a common form of leg and low back pain. Sciatica symptoms may arise from spinal stenosis, disc herniation or post-operative scarring. Sciatica nerve root pain usually radiates down one leg. Sciatica symptoms may include lower back pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness in various parts of the leg and/or foot. According to the Arthritis foundation, about 27 million people in America suffer from Osteoarthritis (OA). Osteoarthritis is one of the most common forms of joint disorder. Osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear of the joints, as a result of aging or overuse. Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition generally involving the degradation of the cartilage and the bone. Common risk factors for Osteoarthritis include:  joint overuse, genetics, obesity, age, and previous joint injury. These are some of the common symptoms of Osteoarthritis:

Rheumatoid Arthritis


Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease and is considered to be a form of inflammatory arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disorder. Rheumatoid arthritis patients bodies attack their own. Fluid  builds up in joints as a result of rheumatoid arthritis, which may cause of joint pain. Rheumatoid arthritis patients may experience inflammation throughout the body. Rheumatoid arthritis is a symmetrical disease, which occurs on both sides of the body. Myofascial Pain Syndrome is a common source of pain. Myofascial Pain may be related to surgery, sports injury, direct traumatic incident, poor posture, poor body mechanics, accident and or muscle strain.
